Greenwich Council Beacon Open Day

The Open Day will be held on Monday 23rd November 2009 at The O2, Greenwich Peninsula – the venue for Artistic Gymnastics and the Basketball finals in 2012. The main conference and themed workshops will focus on the practical steps Greenwich Council has taken to secure local benefits
from the 2012 Games. Speakers from the Council and its partners will outline their work, the lessons learnt and how these can be applied to other areas.

There will also be a demonstration of how to use Greenwich’s innovative Diversity 2012 Toolkit. This process is helping engage the wider community in the lead up to 2012 and is helping to ensure that social inclusion is reflected in the planning and delivery of the Games and its legacy in the borough.

After lunch delegates will have a guided tour of the three Greenwich 2012 venues, the O2 Arena (Gymnastics), the Royal Artillery Barracks (shooting), and Greenwich Park (Equestrian). Experts from the Council and LOCOG will be present to give an insight in to planning the World’s largest sporting event.
