Stories of the World: Setting the Pace: Literature and Storytelling
MLA Council is pleased to announce two grants programmes for Phase 2 of Literature & Storytelling, one of the strands of Setting the Pace, MLA’s programme for The London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
Storytelling
Using collections to inspire creativity and learning, and to celebrate ‘London and the UK welcoming the world’
Funding will pay for the delivery of family storytelling events across England, which will support audiences to engage with collections in new ways. These activities within museums, archives and libraries will increase opportunities for families to learn together using collections as inspiration.
Events will take place to coincide with the Open Weekend 24-26 July 2009. They will appeal to children and their families and give them opportunities to learn together.
Young Cultural Creators
Inspiring young people by ‘celebrating London and the UK welcoming the world’ with the written and spoken word
Funding will pay for the delivery of Young Cultural Creators schemes across England which support young people to write poetry inspired by collections.
Young Cultural Creators projects will build the capacity of archive, museum and library services to deliver social and learning outcomes to vulnerable young people.
Schemes will take place between October 2009 and February 2010. They will work with groups of young people outside mainstream education or at risk of exclusion – from Pupil Referral Units and other Children’s’ Services.
