DCMS Announces Legacy Plans
Today the Department of Culture Media and Sport published the Government’s high-level vision and detailed plans for the legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The document includes how the sporting legacy will be delivered, detailing Sport England’s role through Places People Play. The document also contains plans for how to exploit the full the opportunities for economic growth offered by hosting the Games; promoting community engagement and achieving participation across all groups in society through the Games; and ensuring that the Olympic Park can be developed after the Games as one of the principal drivers of regeneration in East London.
DCMS will publish annual updates to the legacy plan. A consortium from the private and academic sectors, led by Grant Thornton, will carry out a meta-evaluation of the 2012 Games’ benefits and legacy, which will brings together evidence relating to the benefits of individual legacy initiatives into a coherent whole. The first report from the consortium will be published in the New Year.
