Access 2 Sport

The Access 2 Sport project was established over six years ago, initially through partnership between Luton Borough Council’s Children’s Disability Team, the Sports Development Team and the English Federation of Disability Sport with support from the Children’s Fund. The vision of the project is to raise the profile of disability sport and physical activity in Luton through the provision of sustainable sport and physical activity
opportunities for disabled young people (aged 5-18) in Luton.

The aims of the project include:
• The engagement of disabled children and young people in sport and
physical activity.
• The education of providers, coaches and teachers about the barriers
faced by young disabled people in accessing sport and physical activity.
• To work in partnership with multiple agencies to provide sustainable sport
and physical activity opportunities.
• To offer coaching and competitive opportunities in a range of sports
• To research sporting needs of young disabled people in order to shape
future sports provision.
• To assist and support mainstream sports clubs in developing inclusive
sessions
