Clubmark

The Sport England Clubmark award is a nationally adopted set of standards for enabling National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport and their affiliated clubs to set and meet standards that will lead to better quality sports club provision for children and young people. The scheme applies across a wide range of sports, with some NGB's chosing to shape and rename them to suit their sports. Some examples of this include; Football's 'Charter Standard', Netball's 'CAPS' Award, Hockey's 'Clubs1st' and Swimmings 'Swim21'. Clubmark is promoted nationally to enable parents, carers and young people to quickly recognise a club that is committed to providing a quality experience.

The number of Clubmark clubs continues to rise, increasing from 5017 nationally in March 2009 to 6,031 March 2010 (an increase of 20.21%). The number of working towards clubs has also risen, during this time, from 4497 to 4,825 (an increase of 7.29%). This is a particularly important statistic as it means that the underlying upward trend continues. Given that many larger national governing bodies (NGBs) have targeted their ‘easy wins’ this trend is particularly pleasing to note as it implies that smaller and less well resourced clubs are looking to gain Clubmark accreditation.
