The Young Umpire Award
AIM: To promote the development of Young Officials
TARGET GROUP: U18 (recommended13-18 Year olds), however there is no lower age limit and the discretion of the teacher/ course deliverer is acknowledged when making this decision. This coure can be delivered through schools, academies or clubs.
COURSE AIM AND CONTENT:
To improve an understanding of the Game
To introduce the generic skills of umpiring (foundations laid will provide a pathway to 'C' Umpire Award)
To offer opportunities for Talent Identification (linked to PESSYP strategy)
To assist with and fulfil the National Curriculum requirements at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5
HOW IS THIS COURSE DELIVERED:
Prospective YUA Tutors attend an Orientation Workshops (two and half / three hours)
Tutors then deliver the course to young people: Minimum six-hour delivery.
Young people complete Workbook with competencies and undergo practice, with mentoring.
Practical umpire assessment by a qualified England Netball Umpire Assessor – pass/defer.
