A big welcome to the new Excel Coach

Name: Danielle Titmuss
Age: 27
Club: Turnford Netball Club
Playing Positions: WD/C

Danielle has just recently been appointed as the new Excel Coach and is looking forward to working and being part of England Netball and Netball East at this exciting time.
Danielle comes from a very impressive netball background and looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that she may face in her new role.

What sort of career path have you been down that has helped with your appointment as the new East Excel Coach?

So far I have had an extensive experience in coaching at a good level. I was Hertfordshire Sports Partnership Community Coach of the Year (2005) and University College London Head Coach in (2006). I was head coach at Brunel University and Brunel London Talent Squad in (2008). I was Essex Met Head Academy Coach (2009) and Active Broxbourne Coach of the year (2010). I have also been Turnford Junior Netball Club Coach since 1993 to present.

Having come from such an impressive netball background, what playing achievements have you gained?

I have had a really good career in coaching netball, but I have played netball for a long time also. I won the U14 School and National with Broxbourne and the U13’s Club Nationals with Turnford but this was about 15 years ago. I also played for England Universities, Turnford Senior 1st team and Brunel 1st Team as you can see netball has been a big part of my life.

Why did you want to become and Excel Coach?
I love playing and coaching netball but I wanted to become a full time coach and be involved with the sport at an elite level. I enjoy working with young people and supporting the development process of the young players.

What do you want achieve in your new role?
There are a lot of things I want to achieve but the main reasons are that I want the East to remain one the strongest regions, I want to increase the amount of national athletes form the East and help develop coaching across the region to ensure support is there for the young players coming through the ranks.

What are your top tips for developing yourself as a coach?
My top tips are for me to coach as variety of people, observing other coaches, listening to players and importantly not being frightened to try new ideas.

Finally, what are your top tips for developing yourself as a player?
Developing myself as player I focus on working hard, being determined, playing different positions, being physically and mentally strong and open to trying to new things.
