East Region Young Volunteer of the Year 2008
PROFILE CHARLOTTE ROSE YOUNG PLAYER/VOLUNTEER
17 year old Charlotte Rose has obtained the East Region Young Volunteer of the Year and third place in the Herts Sports Partnership Volunteer of the Year. She has also gained the position of Young Ambassador on behalf of the A10 Sports Partnership, all this during 2008.
What school and club do you attend?
I attend Broxbourne School and play for Turnford Netball Club.
What level are you at with exams?
Second year ‘A’ Level
Who do you coach and for how long?
I coach the Juniors at my club and have done so since I was 13.
What is your current level of play?
I played in this year’s U19 National Clubs Squad. My team have always done well in the National Championships, always within the top ten in the country.
What is your current level as a coach?
This year I obtained my UKCC Level 1 and I look forward to taking my Level 2.
How long have you played netball?
I have been playing netball since the age of 8.
Do you play any other sport?
Yes, I am involved in athletics. I compete in shotput and hammer. I currently compete at U20 level and have since the age of 15. I competed for the English Schools at junior level and took first position.
Who has had the biggest influence on your Netball career so far – in a playing Capacity?
There has been a number of major influences. At school it was Ann Marie Muller, Abi Naugher and Kerry Mitchell. At club it has been Carole Titmuss.
Who has had the biggest influence in your volunteering role as coach and umpire?
Carole Titmuss has mentored me from the age and of 13 in both these roles and has showed methere is so much more to netball than just playing.there is so much more to netball than just playing.there is so much more to netball than just playing.
Who is your favourite sports personality?
Amanda Newton, of course.
What sacrifices have you made to fit in your playing and volunteering roles?
I don’t see it as a sacrifice, I love my life
There are other young volunteers – what makes you stand out?
Being able to communicate with all ages at all levels.
What is your preferred career?
Physical Education teacher
What are your next ambitions at netball?
To work with disabled players and to become the youngest Super League coach
