HERTFORDSHIRE MAVERICKS SECURE PLACE IN THE
FIAT NETBALL SUPERLEAGUE COMPETITION
Hertfordshire Mavericks have been confirmed as one of the 8 successful franchises to compete in the Fiat Netball Super League competition.
A new structure will see the League change from last season when nine teams competed now reduced to 8 teams; the successful franchises being Hertfordshire Mavericks, TeamBath, Northern Thunder, Loughborough Lightning, Team Northumbria, Surrey Storm, Celtic Dragons and Yorkshire Jets.
The league playing format will change next season as each franchise will play each other once home or away when the campaign starts, then the league splits into two separate four team tiers. Teams in the top and bottom tier will play each other home and away, this format is designed to create more competitive fixtures.
At the end of Phase 2, the top three teams in Tier 1 will qualify automatically for the Finals Series while the fourth placed team will play a one off game at home against the team that finishes fifth, top of the Second Tier for the remaining slot in the Semi-Finals.
The structure of the Finals will also be radically changed, with the Finals Series taking place over a weekend netball festival, more details will be announced by England Netball once the season is underway.
Gloria Keech, Director of Mavericks Netball, said “I’m delighted that Mavericks have been awarded a 4 year contract to compete in the Fiat Netball Superleague competition and would like to thank those people within the Franchise involved with the successful application”.
“We can now look forward to the challenges next season will bring and continue to build on our success from last season.”
The competition gets underway on the weekend of 21 January and will conclude with the Grand Final Weekend on 19 and 20 May.
