November Back to Netball Festival Report
On Saturday 5th November,
The game of the day saw some accurate shooting from Sparx (Basildon B2N) and Lyons Ladies, with both teams shooting goal for goal a draw seemed the fairest result. Berko Belles took on Lucky 7’s in one of the final games, both teams improving throughout the day were out to prove their point and win there final games. From the whistle the game was goal for goal and looked like it would be fairly settled with a draw however, 5 seconds before the final whistle Berko Belles timed an interception to perfection and consequently scored to win the game 7-6. It was Chelmsford Belles who showed some slick netballing skills throughout the day, even a traditional netballer would be proud of, remaining unbeaten all day that were deserved winners.
Some of the players that commented on the day said - "Saturday was the best fun I have had in a long time, a great day out which I believe was enjoyed by the whole team. Looking forward to the next festival" (Judith, Berko Belles)
“This was the second Back to Netball festival that we have participated in, we really enjoyed it and met some very nice people. It was reassuring to hear that some of the other teams were the same as most of us, mums who had loved netball at school and had the chance to pursue the sport again through the Back to Netball Scheme. The festival gave us a chance to implement the skills that we had learnt at a level that we felt was appropriate for us” (Lea, Lyons Ladies).
Not only did the day provide opportunities for Back to netballers but also gave invaluable experience to newly qualified umpires who relished the opportunity to blow their whistle. “It was a great opportunity to increase my umpire skills whilst helping and passing my playing knowledge and experiences on to those coming back to netball”(Michelle, Umpire).
Another East Region Back to Netball tournament will be running early 2012, so watch this space.
