Facts and Figures - Spring 2011

Coaching Highlights - Spring 2011

Change for Life Clubs

Redborne UpperSchool and WoottonUpperSchool have been running Change 4 Life Badminton Clubs on Monday and Tuesday from 4.30-6.00pm. The Wootton Club has proved to be particularly popular with over 20 students now taking part in badminton on a weekly basis.

At Harlington Upper School the Change 4 Life Table Tennis Club has continued to rise in popularity and now has 12 members who regularly attend sessions. With all the Change 4 Life Clubs, participation and enjoyment are the key. The clubs provide a comfortable environment for young people who do not want the seriousness of playing for a National Governing Body club but at the same time the clubs have proved to be a vital a stepping stone for some young people who through participating in the Change 4 Life Clubs have found they want to play a sport more competitively and have joined other local clubs as a result.

Next half term, Handball Change 4 Life Clubs will be starting at WoottonUpper School and SamuelWhitbreadUpperSchool, on Mondays and Fridays, for further information on how you can join these clubs please speak to either Mr Mills (Wootton) or Mr Daniels (Samuel Whitbread).

Harlington Girls Gym Programme

Fifteen year 10 Harlington Upper School students have signed up to the Girls Gym Programme at Flitwick Leisure Centre. The programme involves the students having the opportunity to go to Flitwick Leisure Centre for 8 weeks and take part in different exercise classes for example Legs Bums & Tums, Step Aerobics, X-Biking etc. At the end of the eight weeks the students will receive an annual student membership which will allow them to carry on using the leisure centre facilities for a discounted rate. The project is in its third week and so far the feedback has been extremely positive from students who have said they are really enjoying the classes and the programme has given them motivation to exercise which usually they wouldn’t.

Snow Boarding Project

After half term Redborne School Sport Partnership are running a 6 week Snowboarding Programme for year 11 students. Students have been selected to take part in the programme as a reward for their efforts in their core PE lessons. The selected students will have the opportunity to go to the new snow centre in Hemel Hempstead, and will receive 6 beginner snowboarding lessons.
