Young Leaders Award
The Young Leader Award is a programme of leadership training for young people between the ages of 9 and 13 that promotes them working with younger children, teaching leadership skills through a range of games and activities. The Young Leader Award has been designed for use in a variety of different delivery settings, including primary and secondary schools, uniformed organisations and sports and community groups that are affiliated to the local authority.
The reward responds to the individual needs of each organisation and its young leaders through a flexible work programme. The resources have been written in an easy format which allows the award to be delivered without specific training. The award focuses on key skills relating to leadership, giving instructions, organisation of people and equipment and the use of space. Each of these are taught through a practical approach to learning. The allows pupils to build confidence in leading others and also means they have the knowledge and experience of a range of activities.
The course has no set delivery time but is usually made up of 6-10 hours of teaching time which can be condensed into one half term, or spread out over a whole term.

Within schools, the Young Leader Award can be used to support and enhance delivery of the National Curriculum at Key Stages 2 & 3. Links can be established with English, PE, Citizenship and PSHE (details can be found in the resource pack).
