Leadership Academy students learn more about Leadership and Volunteering in Sport

On 15th February, LeadershipAcademy students from Redborne, Samuel Whitbread, Wootton and HarlingtonUpperSchools travelled to Barton Rovers Football Club to attend an informative session designed to equip them with the information required to extend their experiences of leadership in their chosen areas of Sport.

Organised jointly by team BEDS&LUTON and the Redborne School Sport Partnership, the day began with an inspirational address by Lloyd Conaway, Director of the County Sports Partnership.

The students had selected 3 workshops that they wished to attend, where they would gain further knowledge of coaching exercises and delivery techniques. Representatives from cheer-leading, dance, netball, cricket, dodgeball, rugby and football kindly agreed to work with us on the day and their advice and encouragement was well received by our pupils.

The National Governing Body officers and coaches ensured that they were available during the lunch-break, to answer any questions and to provide professional guidance. Additional information regarding volunteering at high profile Athletics events was also given.

We hope to see an increase in the number of hours that students can commit to volunteering now that they are more aware of the possibilities and contacts.
