Sportshall Athletics 2009

The Redborne School Sport Partnership held its Lower School Sportshall Athletics Festival on 9th, 12th and 13th November at Alameda Middle School, Robert Bloomfield Middle School and Flitwick Leisure Centre.

The festival had to be held at 3 locations because of the number of schools who entered. Overall 30 lower schools entered with over 700 pupils taking part in the festival.

Sportshall athletics introduces young people to athletics in a fun and exciting way. The challenges can be set up anywhere, and are designed to provide an opportunity for a large number to participate whilst testing the basic sporting skills.

At the Sportshall Athletics festival pupils had to complete 10 different stations. These stations included: balancing, speed bouncing, standing long jump, chest push, javelin, stepper, shuttle run, skipping and catching. Young leaders from Alameda, Robert Bloomfield and Woodland Middle School were allocated to each station. They counted and recorded all the pupils scores, which were added together to give the schools final points total.

Coaches from Biggleswade Athletics Club were present at the festivals to talent spot potential athletes and advise them of pathways into athletics after the festival.
