Unlimited Sporting Opportunities
The Autumn term saw the start of the new Sport Unlimited programme which joins many other initiatives in providing all young people the opportunity to take part in 5 hours of physical activity and sport by 2011.
These initiatives have seen Upper School pupils being involved in various water sports such as canoeing, sailing and wakeboarding. All of the pupils had a great time and were provided with details on how to continue with the activities.
There have been 6 lower schools and 2 middle schools take up the opportunity of having a breakfast sports club held at their school every week for 10 weeks. This will then hopefully be sustained by the schools continuing with this club but charging a small amount to their pupils.
Two middle schools have had the chance to have their pupils take part in an after school fun sports club, where they have been taking part in various non traditional sports such as bench ball, dodge ball and ultimate Frisbee.
Two different middle schools were asked to invite their pupils to a Saturday morning sports club held at the local leisure centre. This ran for 2 hours every week for 10 weeks and now these pupils have the opportunity to attend a weekly hour club on a Saturday at the leisure centre to continue these sports. Pupils were involved in sports such as trampolining, golf, rugby, football, basketball and archery.
This term also involved local uniformed groups being invited to take part in some Top Activity training. After the 2 training sessions the leaders from these groups could take with them over four hundred pounds worth of equipment for free to use at their uniformed organisations such as Cubs and Brownies. All that took part thoroughly enjoyed the training and have told other leaders about the opportunity.
The programme continues in the spring term, with different schools and pupils being targeted. Further updates will be added to the website. For further details contact Michelle Peyton (details available in the Meet the Team section).
