Wootton girls win football final

On tuesday 10th March, Samuel Whitbread Community College organised a friendly girls football competition for local upper schools.

Students from yr 9 and 10 competed in the tournament which consisted of Wootton, Redborne, Samuel Whitbread and Mark Rutherford Upper Schools. The event, organised by Samuel Whitbread PE dept, was very enjoyable for all who took part. Results were very close across the board with Wootton finishing top of the group.

The other final place had to be decided between Redborne and Mark Rutherford as they finished level on points, goals for and against, and the results between the 2 teams were both draws. The close decider finished 1-0 to Redborne who went into the final confident after beating Wootton in the group stages.

At half time Redborne lead by 1-0 but by full time the scores were level at 2-2 after a late Wootton equaliser. The tournament was then decided by a tense penalty shoot out where Wootton held their nerve to triumph 4-2.

Congratulations to Wootton Upper and all who took part. A special thanks to Samuel Whitbread and we look forward to competing in similar events in the future.
