Big Lottery Fund
The School Sport Partnership is able to put on such a wide variety of activity via funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
The Big Lottery Fund supports ‘Out of School Hours Learning’ activity to increase the amount of opportunities children have to take part in school sport between the age of 5 -16yrs.
Activity can take place before school, at lunchtime or after school and is usually targeted towards a certain group of children. For example those who are disengaged from PE and school sport or those who have poor basic skills in physical activity.
Schools in the first phase of the Partnership have been given the opportunity to get involved in some of the following;
- Basic Moves
- Street Dance
- Basketball
- Orienteering
- Badminton
- Archery
- Golf
- Baton Twirling
- Leisure Centre Fitness
- Buddying
- Indoor Rowing
Funding for these out of school hours sports finishes at the end of the academic year 2007-2008. Procedures have been put in place with SSCo support to ensure these activities become more sustainable in schools by increasing club links, teacher training, equipment purchase and coach contact details.
Schools who joined the Partnership during September 2007 will receive 3 years of funding to develop their out of school hours learning.
