Local Sports People Realise their Ambitions
team BEDS&LUTON were delighted by the success of their first Club and Coach Conference REALISING the AMBITION this weekend, with over 100 sports enthusiasts from across the county attending the event. The conference offered a unique opportunity for clubs, coaches, volunteers and teachers to come together and gather information about sport locally and nationally, by networking, listening to keynote speakers and attending workshops.
The day begun at 9.30am with a reception and the conference officially opened at 10am, with a welcome from our colleagues at Sport England East who gave an update on the context of sport both regionally and nationally, and also update on 'Extended Activities' and the impact that the £650,000 that team BEDS&LUTON have drawn down can have on clubs.
After mid morning refreshments, delegates were given the opportunity to attend a talk-shop with their NGB, or join in the generic sports forum where ideas were discussed and questions answered specific to individual club and coach needs. Following on from this Sue Hawkins, National Coach for the England Netball team, ranked 3rd in the world, gave a superbly honest talk on her career as both a player and coach, and inspired the many delegates to achieve the most from themselves and others.
The day concluded after lunch and a partners marketplace, with a series of workshops, including;
A Club for all, Safeguarding & Child Protection, Grow Your Sports Club, Managing Behaviour, The Inner Game, Fundamentals of Movement, The Role of the Volunteer Coordinator.
The feedback from the event has been fantastic and team BEDS&LUTON are already beginning to think about how they can expand upon this success for next year.
