Sport England Launch Active Women Themed Round
This week, the Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe MP, joined Jennie Price and Denise Lewis at the Lilian Baylis School in Lambeth to launch Sport England’s second themed round, Active Women.
Through Active Women, we will invest a total of £10 million of Lottery funding in projects that address key barriers to participation in sport amongst two target groups:
Women in disadvantaged communities (the 20% most deprived areas in the country, as defined by the 2007 ‘Indices of Deprivation’) – our challenge amongst this group is to stimulate local demand for sport
Women caring for children under 16 – our challenge here is to identify and provide appropriate and accessible sporting opportunities and facilities that will meet demand.
Pre-application workshops
Sport England are also running a number of pre-application workshops to provide greater detail on the types of projects they are looking to fund, along with an explanation on the rationale and criteria for this specific themed round. These will be held on the following dates:
18th November 2009 - Manchester
20th November 2009 – Reading
23rd November 2009 – Birmingham
Full details of the programme are available on the funding pages of Sport England’s website. If you have a query on the Active Women Themed Round please contact Sport England on 08458 508 508.
