PESSYP
THE PE, SCHOOL SPORT & YOUNG PEOPLE STRATEGY (PESSYP)
The new PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) launched in January 2008 expresses the Government’s commitment to improve the quantity and quality of PE and sport undertaken by young people aged 5-19 in England. PESSYP builds on the success of the PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) Strategy for 5-16 year olds, which went live in
April 2003.
The new PE and Sport Strategy for Young People has ten Work Strands as follows:
1. CLUB LINKS
The Club Links work strand will create and develop links between schools and community sports clubs to support an increase in the number of children aged 5-16 years old who are participating in community sports clubs. More...
2. COACHING
School Sport Coaches
This programme is designed to create a step-change in the quantity and quality of coaching offered to young people in sport. It will drive up standards of coaching children and make a positive contribution to the Five Hour Offer. It will offer TOP-UP coaching grants to all School Sports Partnerships to enable them to build on local relationships and coaching programmes. More...
3. COMPETITION
The competition programme is now into its third year in Bedfordshire and Luton and is delivered by team of 4 officers. For up to date information visit www.competitions4all.co.uk
4. CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)
The programme aims to support the implementation of the high level targets within the overall PE, Sport Strategy, and Young People strategy outlined by the Government. The programme will underpin the delivery of the five hour offer through the PESSYP network.

SSCo Development
We are currently awaiting national guidance on future direction and content of this aspect of training. Two dates have been identified for the 2009-10 academic year, Friday 6th November 09 and Thurs 6th May 2010.
5. DISABILITY
The aim of the Playground to Podium programme is to establish a network of Multi-Sport Disability Clubs across SSPs in Bedfordshire and Luton. More…
6. SPORT UNLIMITED
The Sport Unlimited programme provides a range of attractive and sustainable opportunities in sporting activities for Young People from the ‘semi sporty’ population segment to take part in during term time. In Bedfordshire and Luton, plans targeting Young People are generated by four separate Local Planning Groups representative of School Sports Partnerships, (SSPs), team BEDS&LUTON (tBL), Local Authorities and Extended Services. 7.GIFTED & TALENTED

8. INFRASTRUCTURE
The PESSYP strategy identifies a broader infrastructure for it’s delivery than previously existed. SSPs are central to the delivery of PESSYP with the County Sports Partnership and National Governing Bodies of Sport playing an increasing role. The PESSYP strategy also sees the inclusion of Further Education Sports Co-ordinators for the first time. More…
