Become a Sport Maker
Be part of the LONDON 2012 Legacy and put your talents to good use
The Olympic and Paralympic Legacy isn't just about elite sport, it could also be about getting involved in sport in your local community.
Have you ever thought about setting up a regular social sport activity in your community? Perhaps 5 a side football, rounders in the park, running or walking groups, or informal badminton sessions. Or if you have great IT, marketing or organisational skills that could help a local sports group, we need your help!
Sport Makers has been launched across the country as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Legacy. Locally, our aim is to link just under 700 volunteers, termed 'Sport Makers', with opportunities in sport across Bedfordshire and Luton.
This is your chance to volunteer in local sport in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics - and beyond.
What it involves?
The Sport Makers journey begins by attending a FREE Sport Makers 2012 workshop, you can register your interest in attending one of these workshops below.
During and after the workshop takes place team BEDS&LUTON will work with you to find you a suitable volunteer opportunity or support you to create your own sports activity in your local community. Once this is in place we will ask Sport Makers to complete at least 10 hours of volunteering in sport which you can easliy record online.
It's completely free to apply and there are no obligations to carry on after the training (but we hope you do!) There are hundreads of local opportunities to suit a wide range of skills and interests.
The programme officially goes live in November 2011 and will be looking for Sport Makers who can get involved in activities from the November 1st onwards. However you can register your interest in the programme today by following the link below.
Sport Makers who actively take part in the programme will receive an Adidas Polo shirt and Bag. We also hope to announce further Olympic/Paralympic incentives when the programme launches in November 2011.
