Step into Sport Awards

step into sport

An important element of Step into Sport Community Volunteering is the Step into Sport Awards. These awards provide an opportunity for you, as a  volunteer in your local community, to gain the recognition that you deserve for your valuable contribution to volunteering. There are two ways that Step into Sport Community Volunteering Awards will be presented in 2009/10 which are detailed below.

Remember…

Volunteering displays commitment and drive as an individual and therefore it will develop your employability skills in communication, leadership and organisation, team work, a good attitude towards work and of course your interest in helping others around you.

1)The Youth Sport Trust recognises your contribution to community volunteering by awarding nationally recognised certificates dependent on the number of hours you volunteer;

Youth Sport Trust - BRONZE AWARD - 50 hours

Youth Sport Trust - SILVER AWARD - 100 hours

Youth Sport Trust - GOLD AWARD - 200 hours

New for this year is the YST DOUBLE GOLD AWARD for 400 hours volunteering! The award can be acheived by completing 400 hours in your community placement or 200 hours school based volunteering + 200 hours community based volunteering.

2)team BEDS&LUTON will award those whose contribution to community volunteering deserves special recognition.

At the end of each school year Step into Sport mentors are invited to nominate a young volunteer they feel has made a significant contribution in their volunteer placement.

To be eligible for nomination the young volunteer must be actively volunteering in a community placement and registered and using the Step into Sport online passport.

team BEDS&LUTON will select a volunteer from the nominations in four different categories whose contributions will be recognised on our website. These young volunteers will receive team BEDS&LUTON Step into Sport Awards!

MARCH AWARDS

We had a terrific response from across the county and on behalf of the Panel I would like to congratulate everyone who was put forward for nomination. Please keep logging your hours and best of luck for next term!

Congratulations to STEPHANIE KNIGHT

The winner of the Autumn term Step into Sport County Award goes to Stephanie Knight from Luton Sixth Form College. Stephanie has completed nearly 60 community volunteering hours to date and as the weeks progress it will continue to rise. Stephanie regularly takes control of the Year 7 and 8 PE groups at Icknield High School during her free periods at Luton Sixth Form College. With that aside, Stephanie is a great ambassador for volunteering athletics in schools but she also made a significant contribution to the volunteer team at this year’s Bedfordshire Cross-Country Championships.

This year each winner receives a brand new Apple iPod Nano and a team BEDS&LUTON County Award certificate which can provide an interesting talking point at future interviews. Once again, congratulations on your achievement Stephanie continue to log your hours and keep up the fantastic work!
