Step into Sport 2007/2008
Community Volunteering forms Step 5 of the Step into Sport programme and is aimed at young people aged between 16-19 years who have undertaken some leadership training previously.
Community Volunteering aims to provide volunteer placements to young people in a local community sports club or other community group such as a youth club.
Most placements should be within a local sports club or association within the local community, this could be a local football club, swimming club or youth club.
It may be the that you have links with a local club and would like to develop a volunteer placement there. In this case you should contact your Step into Sport Mentor or Joby at team BEDS&LUTON; joby@teambedsandluton.co.uk / 01582 813763 to discuss how you can start your placement.
Alternatively you may require help finding a placement. Once you have identified the sport and type of placement you would like to volunteer in you should contact either your Step into Sport Mentor or Joby at team BEDS&LUTON; joby@teambedsandluton.co.uk / 01582 813763.
Potential young volunteers that have shown an interest in Step into Sport Community Volunteering are currently being identified and those identified so far have attended one of the four Step into Sport Young Volunteer workshops that were held within Bedfordshire and Luton this autumn;
27th November – Luton Regional Sports Centre, Luton
3rd December – Shuttleworth College, Mid Beds
7th December – University of Bedfordshire, Bedford
10th December – Leighton Buzzard Theatre, South Beds
The aim of the Young Volunteer workshops was to prepare potential young volunteers for a community volunteering placement. The workshops provided the young volunteers with information about the Step into Sport programme, how they can identify a placement, the support they will receive, the benefits that they can gain from the programme and the awards they can receive.
The workshops were both informative and fun with the young volunteers also being engaged in some leadership and team building activities!
The fun part then begins…
With the support of team BEDS&LUTON and their Mentors the young volunteers will identify a placement in a community club or association and begin volunteering!
If you are interested in becoming involved in Step into Sport and the Community Volunteering Programme, but you did not attend one of the four Young Volunteer workshops, do not worry; its not too late!
Please contact joby@teambedsandluton / 01582 813763 or your schools SSCO to find out more information and register for Step into Sport 2007/08.
