What is a satellite club?
Satellite clubs are extensions or outposts of community sports clubs which are established in a new venue, usually a secondary school or college and specifically targeted at the 11 to 25 age group.
Who are satellite clubs for?
Satellite clubs are aimed at 11-25 year olds. Typically, a satellite club is for a young person who enjoys sport or physical activity but is not currently a club member, perhaps put-off because they can't commit to the training/playing schedules. They may be restricted in terms of how far they can travel or how much they can pay, or they may simply want to enjoy sport as a social activity.
2016/2017 Overview of Satellite Club Links programme in Bedfordshire
Team BEDS&LUTON had another successful year within Satellite Club links programme as 589 new participants attended the sessions of which 57% were men and 43% were female. We are working hard to offer more inclusive sporting and physical activity opportunities for everyone, no matter their background. During the 2016/2017 over 32% of satellite club participants were from BAME group or had disability. We also supported 34 satellite clubs financially to develop their club to become sustainable. Clubs mainly used this to develop their coaches, buy new equipment and reach new audiences through marketing. Besides that we also set up 7 new clubs that are now offering sporting and physical activity opportunities in Bedfordshire communities. Our hard work was confirmed by Sport England as they RAG rated us Green (The highest rating) of which shows the good work that our satellite clubs are doing in Bedfordshire.
