Leigh-anne Cruickshank

I fell into fitness around 5 years ago when I reached my 40's and decided to make some changes for a better wellbeing. I discovered ME TIME which is ran by Active Luton and was set up to encourage Luton women and girls to take part in fun physical activity with female only instructors in a friendly non- judgemental environments. Joining ME TIME made me stronger, fitter and I realised I was performing better at work as my mind was clearer and more motivated.

I loved the classes and fitness sessions so much that I decided to try and turn it into a career as I wanted to inspire others to go on the same journey as me. If I could do it in my early 40's then so could others. As a result, in 2017 I completed my LIFR (leadership into Fitness & Running) training, funded by Active Luton. This lead to me to then certify as an Indoor Cycling Instructor in 2018 and a Kettlercise instructor in 2019 (which I funded myself) I set up my own private classes around the town Spinning, running groups, Kettlercise classes, walking groups and boot camps.

I regularly attend park runs, enter 5ks, 10ks and half marathons which is something I never thought I could do. During lockdown I enjoyed doing the virtual challenges, they really kept me motivated and I loved getting the medals through the post at the end of each month.

I love working in Luton as it's such a diverse town with vibrant cultures. I support the mental health benefit you get from attending classes and have mentored , coached and inspired others to make a change for a better way of living. Before lockdown I regularly taught at a number of private low cost affordable classes around the town, I cant wait to get back to coaching and inspiring others.

I am the best version of me when I am eating clean and being active, it keeps me mentally strong and helps me cope with the pressure of life, running a large family and juggling the huge responsibility of being the service manager for total wellbeing talking therapies service.

As an active Bedfordshire ambassador and as a mentor and coach, I want to help women of any age to take that first tentative step into exercise in a safe and nurturing environment. If I can do it anyone can!
