COURSE: Implementing a Behaviour Change Programme at your club? Understand the Design, Delivery & Evaluation

Trainer is Dr Angel Chater.

Target audience: Staff and individuals involved in the planning and designing of physical activity interventions.

Overview

Any programme that aims to change behaviour needs careful consideration. Intervention mapping provides a protocol for considerations that may improve our understanding of behaviour change when planning such programmes. However, there are many intertwined and overlapping models and theoretical approaches that could be drawn upon when addressing programmes that aim to engage a diverse audience and change behaviour.

This 2-part workshop will introduce you to the leading and most recent approaches, most specifically the Behaviour Change Wheel (Michie et al., 2011) and theoretical frameworks to support your understanding of behaviour change programme design, delivery and evaluation. It will further support group discussions that will encourage you to apply knowledge gained from the workshop to a programme that you may be working on or have an interest in developing.

Dr Angel Chater is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Registered Health Psychologist and Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is a Reader in Health Psychology and Behaviour Change at the University of Bedfordshire (UoB) and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology and Behavioural Medicine at University College London (UCL). She has applied experience as a Health Psychologist to Specialist Obesity Services at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, with a focus on bariatric surgery. She is also an experienced Health Coach in private practice. She is the founder of SEPIA Health, a company that Specialises in the Education for Professionals in Applied Health.
