Get Hooked on Fishing

The aim is to create opportunities for young people - building a brighter future for them, their families and local community by delivering fun and interactive activities centered around angling.

About This Programme

Get Hooked provides an umbrella structure for the twenty or so Get Hooked on Fishing schemes that now run in England, Scotland and Wales. Some schemes are based on coarse fishing, some on sea angling and some on fly fishing.

The Trust works with partners such as the Environment Agency, the Angling Trust, the Angling Development Board, Positive Futures, charitable trusts, central and local government to promote the value of angling for young people who are troubled or who have special needs. It provides direction and guidance to local schemes, all of whom must sign up to the Get Hooked on Fishing Chartermark Standards.

What the programme does:

Most importantly, it seeks to engage with local communities, particularly those who have high level of economic or social deprivation, and seek to involve them in determining the particular nature of the activities undertaken.

They deliver fun and interactive training around the sport of angling. Our programme is especially designed with the help of young people to give the participants more confidence and to demonstrate that there are alternative pathways and better opportunities available to them.

They help to train and develop peer mentors at the same time as encouraging young people to take an active part in how we run the local schemes.

They are happy to work with all young people aged 6 and over and have a proven track-record in delivering social inclusion, improvements in school attendance and educational achievement
